The 25 Questions Food Tag

The 25 Questions Food Tag is a popular, light-hearted Q&A widely used by lifestyle and food bloggers. I discovered it while perusing the internet for a new questionnaire, as I’ve done a great deal of substantive writing of late and I wanted to tackle something a lot less involved. As ever, having read through the questions on offer, there is plenty of scope for some interesting answers and a modicum of levity. Food per se, is also a good subject to write about as eating is something we all do. This questionnaire has also made me consider whether writing about food is something I should do more often. Would there be an audience for sharing recipes, for example? I would say that’s “food for thought” but I won’t because puns are annoying. However, I digress. Here for your edifications and my blogging convenience, are my answers to “The 25 Questions Food Tag “.

Favourite breakfast: A full English breakfast. However, my new dietary regime has put a stop to such things on a regular basis, so at present I mainly have eggs for breakfast.

Coffee or tea: Despite being British, I drink very little tea. I like black coffee in the morning but I am not a coffee zealot. Mainly because I don’t get much of a buzz from caffeine.

Favourite sandwich: Bacon and Brie with a little sriracha.

Soup or salad: If these are starters, then I’ll choose the soup. I tend to add additional meat, cheese or eggs to my salads which negates their alleged benefits

Favourite cuisine: Italian, although I am happy to try cuisine from over the world.

Do you cook at home: Mrs P or myself cook most days. Air fryers and combi ovens make it very easy these days.

Where do you grocery shop: We shop locally at the Co-op and Marks & Spencers. We then do a more substantive shop at Sainsbury’s a couple of times a month, which is a 30 minute drive away.

Chain restaurants: I have no prejudice against chain restaurants. When dining out we decide according to our circumstances and needs. Sometimes something quick and convenient is required. On other occasions if we are going out for the evening, then we’ll go somewhere more sophisticated.

Favourite restaurant: For me it’s a toss up between Cacio e Pepe in Sidcup or the Shampan in Welling.

Favourite food movie: Good Burger. “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger. Can I take your order?”

Favourite snack: Nuts

Favourite food blogs: Not found one yet, although I haven’t really been looking.

Tastiest food memory: In 2022, I order the seafood platter for two at the Crab and Lobster Inn at Bembridge on the Isle of White. It was an utter delight, with some of the best prepared shellfish I’ve ever had.

Kitchen essentials: Black Pepper, salt, Paprika, Ground Cumin, Garlic Powder, Garam Masala, Cayenne Pepper and mixed herbs are a few that come to mind.

Kitchen gadget dream: I would like to fill my counter top with Ninja gadgets.

Who taught you to cook: Both of my parents, who were keen cooks. As an adult, I’ve always been happy to experiment and learn for myself.

Signature dish: Salmon and leak risotto. Has optional asparagus.

Guilty food pleasure: I like a post pub Kebab.

A surprising food fact: I don’t like many green vegetables, such as sprouts, broccoli or runner beans. I do like spinach though. I find the darker the shade of green the bitter the taste.

Cilantro debate: Coriander? I have no issue with it.

Weirdest food combination you actually like: I have a liking for lime pickle and will have it outside of Indian cuisine. It compliments cold meat in sandwiches.

Food you hated as a child that you love now: Olives, White Bait and mushrooms.

Sweet or savoury: Both. Binary choices are often unnecessary.

Midnight snack of choice: Until recently, it would usually be a sandwich. Easy and convenient. Now I tend to make a quick bowl of noodles.

The ultimate last meal: Baked Camembert for starter. Roast Beef with roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, thick gravy with a hint of horseradish. Accompanied with a bottle of Pinot Noir. Something light and palette cleansing for desert such as Lemon Torte.
