Your chosen name and comment will normally be displayed publicly. Your email address will not be displayed as part of the published comment.

Comments may remain available for as long as the relevant article remains published. Comments may be edited or removed where they are abusive, unlawful, irrelevant, duplicated or otherwise unsuitable.

4. Contact messages

When you contact me, I may receive your:

  • email address;

  • message;

  • any other information you choose to provide.

This information is used only to read and respond to your enquiry, maintain appropriate correspondence records and deal with any related questions or complaints.

Routine correspondence will normally be retained for up to two years after the last communication. Information may be retained for longer where reasonably necessary to deal with an ongoing dispute, legal issue or safeguarding concern.

5. Giveaways

When you enter a giveaway, I may collect:

  • your chosen name or display name;

  • your email address;

  • your entry comment;

  • information needed to verify your eligibility;

  • your postal address if you win a physical prize.

This information is used to:

  • administer the giveaway;

  • check entries against the published terms;

  • select and contact the winner;

  • deliver the prize;

  • investigate any question or dispute concerning the giveaway.

Information relating to unsuccessful entrants will normally be deleted within three months of the giveaway closing.

Winner information may be retained for up to twelve months after the prize has been delivered, or longer where reasonably necessary for accounting, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or legal purposes.

Postal addresses will not be used for marketing.

6. Financial support through PayPal, GooglePay and Klarna

The Support Us page links to PayPal, Google Pay and Klarna.

When you use a link, your payment is completed through that service provider rather than directly through this website. PayPal, Google Pay and Klarna processes your payment information under its own privacy statement and terms.

I may receive limited transaction information from PayPal, Google Pay and Klarna, such as the supporter’s name, email address, amount and date of the payment. I do not receive or store your full card or bank-account details.

Transaction records may be retained for as long as reasonably required for accounting, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution and legal obligations. PayPal, Google Pay and Klarna confirm that payments made through there donation facilities are completed on their respective sites.

7. Website analytics

This website uses both Squarespace Analytics and Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site.

Analytics information may include:

  • pages visited;

  • approximate geographic location;

  • browser and device type;

  • referral source;

  • time and date of visits;

  • interactions with pages and links;

  • general technical information about the visit.

This information is used to understand readership, identify technical problems, assess which articles are useful or popular and improve the website.

Analytics information is not used by me to identify individual visitors by name.

Google states that Google Analytics collects information concerning the browser or device and website activity. Although an IP address is used during collection, Google says it does not log or store the IP address in Analytics. (Google Support)

Google Analytics user-level data is retained for 2 months, according to the setting selected in the Google Analytics property.

Place it under Not Linked, then add a permanent Privacy link in the footer. The notice should remain accessible from every page, even though it does not need to appear in the main navigation.
