New Projects
At the beginning of November, I wrote about moving on from Contains Moderate Peril to pursue new projects. I’m pleased to report, that is exactly what I have done. In the last month, I’ve set up two new websites and am currently planning a podcast. This change of direction has proven most enjoyable and has reinvigorated my passion for writing. It has also been rewarding dealing with the technical challenges that inevitably arise from registering domains, building websites and configuring email addresses.
So what have I been up to? Well, the first new project is the Attention Economy. This website offers commentary and analysis of UK politics as well as FAQs and explainers. It is written from a broadly independent perspective, without any affiliation to the various UK political parties. All too often the news cycle focuses upon various political debates without any context. It can also be argued that the partisan nature of the UK press frequently presents such matters as simple, emotive binary propositions. I just want to encourage people to look beyond the headlines and think, rather than blindly feel. I am hoping to launch an accompanying podcast in the new year.
The second project is more lighthearted. A few years ago, I started posting pictures of Walter watching various films and TV shows. Who is Walter you may ask? The above picture tells all. It proved quite popular and I have been considering bringing him back in some shape or form for a while. To cut a long story short, I found myself with a spare blog hosting package, so decided to give Walter his own website. Walter Watches is a simple platform where he and his nephew Finwë can view classic cinema and share their opinions. I am currently experimenting with some other vehicles for Walter, to be announced later if they prove viable.
All of which brings me to the thrust of this post, which is ultimately a shameless piece of self promotion. I am very appreciative of your support for my various projects over the years. Therefore, may I encourage you, dear readers, to check out the above two websites, if they appeal to you. Also, if you use Twitter/X, please consider following the following accounts: @watchwithwalter and @rogertedwards. I am actively trying to develop both Attention Economy and Walter Watches and build an audience accordingly. I am curious to see in a year from now, which one has gained the most traction. I already have my suspicions.
