Simon Quinlank – King of all Hobbies

by

Before the assimilation of gaming into the mainstream of popular culture, people pursued other pastimes and social activities. In other words they had hobbies. Now during the mid 90′s one man rose to be the worlds leading authority in the field of recreational leisure time activities. This man was Simon Quinlank. He appeared regularly on the TV shows Fist Of Fun and This Morning With Richard Not Judy extolling the virtues of hobbies and providing suggestions for new leisure activities along with a list of items that it would require. Mr. Quinlank’s Wikipedia biography run thus:

Simon Quinlank, was a self proclaimed “Hobby Lion” and “King of all hobbies”. In each episode, he presents a slot (filmed on camcorder by an unseen assistant) relating to his latest invented hobby. He is known for his maniacal laughter, frequent cries of “Answer me!”, and loathing for never-seen rival Neil Petark. He also has a fondness for “weak lemon drink”.

I recently rediscovered Simon Quinlank’s body of work and thought it may be beneficial to share it with others. Especially, if like me, you find this time of the year some what lacking in conventional gaming interests. Why not try some alternatives hobbies such as egg smashing, old man collecting or train ignoring. All have the potential to be very rewarding. Remember that Simon Quinlank is completely real and not in anyway played by the comic actor Kevin Eldon.

  1. That is a blast from the past! I’m a massive Stewart Lee fan, but loved Lee and Herring as a child. Great sketches, thanks for posting!

  2. Yes I did hear. I have been meaning to purchase them, especially as Lee and Herring had to buy the rights to the show themselves, so are considerably out of pocket.
