Here’s this weeks Contains Moderate Peril podcast. Brian and I had an incident free recording session this time round and cover quite a few topics. - Disproportionately hard quests. Challenge or pain in the ass?: Do game developers put a extra hard content into games for a reason, such as a gear check or is it simply just an example of soppy planning? [19:20]

Only catching up with this episode now so my comment may be too late to assist Bryan... Bloodmaw is doable but tough. I really wouldn't bother with updating your legendary weapons as your level 65 one should really do you till you hit the new cap at lvl 75. I have leveled 4 characters all to level cap without updating my weapon till I got there. So tips to get him down..... 1. Level so that you are on level with the quest. You should really be at the same level already so possibly skipped an area or quest hub? If not do a couple of solo skirmishes. 2. Clear adds that are close by. If any of them get involved it is probably not a doable quest. 3. No harm in popping a hope token and battle lore scroll. 4. Obtain Full Focus 5. Hit Burn Hot 6. Hit Needful Haste. 7. Obtain full focus again(for the +25% crit chance) 8. Heartseeker. Should take about 7k from the mob. 9. Swiftbow, bloodarrow, penetrating shot till he gets close. 10. Dazing Blow to put him out of action for a few seconds. 11. Rain of Thorns to allow you to put some distance between you and the mob. 13. Intent Concentration to regain full focus. 14. Swiftbow for another couple of k damage. 15. Penetrating shot should finish him off. No harm in practicing this skill rotation on a few trash mobs before hand so that you are comfortable with the order.

LikeWe did mention that it may be a gear check. It may have been beneficial if the quest was flagged in a way to make that a little more obvious in advance, perhaps. As for Cryptic's competition, I can see the thinking behind a "fame or fortune" approach, but being mercenary, I always focus on the "fortune" aspect :)

Likeok -- i generally have enjoyed your podcasts, but I think you've missed the mark this week on a couple of features. 1) bloodmaw in lotro is a gearcheck...it is a tough quest, but is at a point to remind players to upgrade their legendary weapons. using class skills, traps, and the soldier in conjunction with the upgraded dps makes the quest doable. while it *does* block the zone, the epic quest line is not blocked. help the people of the area until you are ready to move along. 2) on cryptic points and the foundary in STO. apparently 500 cryptic points is extremely laughable for this segment....perhaps. but the "prize" that was missed is the achievement and recognition by other fans and cryptic for building content. having content in the game and being recognized is worth more than the 500 points.
