Trailers can be a tedious medium at times, distilling a bland movie into a even blander audio/visual nugget. However despite all that and my default position of abject cynicism, I have to admit to not objecting too much at the notion of a fifth Die Hard 5 movie and another adventure with John McClane. I think it all comes down to the accessibility of the the character and his world weary demeanour.
The latest instalment in the franchise, A Good Day To Die Hard introduces the character of Jack McClane, John’s son. Previously seen as a child in the original 1988 movie, Jack (played by Jai Courtney) is now a deep cover operative for the US intelligence service and has infiltrated a renegade group of Russian Dissidents. Obviously it all goes pear shaped, thus facilitating the arrival of Bruce Willis and much discharging of firearms and ordinance in built up areas. It looks very silly but also very entertaining. Let us hope that director John Moore is allowed to make a suitable gritty entry into the franchise. If he does I will forgive him for Max Payne.
So here is a brief behind the scenes promotional video that has some new and previously unseen footage in it. A Good Day To Die Hard, or Die Hard 5 to most of us, will be in cinemas on February 14th 2013.
